Welcome to Banks Peninsula, home of The Hector's dolphins and eco-tourism pioneers Black Cat Cruises

Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust Partner badge

We are proud to announce that we have partnered with the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust.

At Black Cat Cruises, we love and care for the Banks Peninsula deeply. We are so lucky to get to experience this breathtaking place and its creatures daily, and even more so to share it with our guests. We feel a deep responsibility to protect them for generations to come.

While we do what we can through our own practices to maintain our beautiful surroundings and thriving wildlife, we understand that our individual impact is limited. That is why we are always eager to partner with other organisations and trusts that share our common goals.

With that in mind, we are incredibly proud to share that we are now Gold Supporters of the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust (BPCT).

“We are delighted to have Black Cat partner with us to continue our work to improve the biodiversity of this wonderful place.” – BPCT

Who is the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust?

The Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust is a passionate, community-led organisation dedicated to protecting and enhancing the unique biodiversity of Banks Peninsula (Horomaka). They work alongside mana whenua, landowners, local and central government, conservation agencies, and community groups to deliver a real and lasting environmental impact across the landscape.

They lead and support vital projects, including:

  • Protecting Native Habitats: Working alongside local landowners to legally protect vital ecosystems through conservation covenants.
  • Pest and Predator Eradication: Extensive trapping and eradication programs to give native birds, lizards, and invertebrates a safe environment to thrive.
  • Species Recovery: Undertaking crucial projects to reintroduce and support the native wildlife that calls the peninsula home.
  • Community Collaboration: Bringing together locals, rūnanga, landowners, and businesses to foster a collective culture of guardianship (kaitiakitanga).

How BPCT Aligns with Our Core Values

Our connection to the peninsula runs deep. As an eco-tourism operator, our values aren’t just words on a page, they are anchored in action. Supporting the BPCT is a perfect extension of what we stand for.

Looking to the Future

We want to extend a massive thank you to the team at the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust for their tireless hard work over the last 25 years. We are honoured to be able to support you on this journey!
